External Things

I actually never really think much of external things. I never really think about being cool, being pretty, getting rich, having cool jobs, etc. And after all those years, I still find it a little bit surprising to discover that people actually look at those stuffs as something very important. I never really think about my friend’s cool IG Feed, their last winter holidays, edited skin tone, favourite workouts, let alone the fact they are successful or living in pretty houses — and to have a conversation related to those issues, got me thinking, is it the ones who have it are the ones who think those as important?

We define success by so many things. Sometimes it is about the money in your bank, sometimes it is about being able to stop working at 6PM and enjoying nights in. Is it important to look cool? Or is it important to actually savour your life without having to show it off? Since social media is pretty much around, sometimes we get carried away by some standards that we actually do not really want or we start to think we want something that we do not. Maybe because people seem to like A you think you need to do A, or to be A. I end up asking myself a lot about this, do I like what I choose and what I do because I like it and I find it important for myself? Or am I adopting too much of what society tells? Being successful, owning good stuffs — who does not want it? but those stuffs also come with sacrifice. Do I enjoy what I sacrifice? Or do I take it all just because I do not know what I really want?

That’s a question for me to contemplate.
